The CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) course is designed for lifeguards, first responders, healthcare providers, and public safety professionals who require a higher level of training in emergency cardiovascular care. This course focuses on advanced rescue skills, teamwork, and rapid response to breathing and cardiac emergencies.
Course Objectives
Participants will learn to:
Perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants as both a single rescuer and part of a team.
Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) effectively and safely.
Provide ventilations using a resuscitation mask and bag-valve-mask (BVM).
Recognize and respond to respiratory and cardiac arrest scenarios.
Manage choking emergencies in victims of all ages.
Coordinate care with other rescuers and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
Understand legal considerations and scene safety principles for professional rescuers.
Requirements for Completion
To successfully complete the course, participants must:
Complete all required online learning modules before the in-person session.
Actively participate in all skills practice and team-based scenarios.
Demonstrate competency in all required CPR and rescue skills.
Pass the final written exam with a score of 80% or higher.
Certification Details
Upon successful completion, participants will earn an American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) certification, valid for two years. This certification meets professional-level training requirements for aquatic safety personnel, lifeguards, and other emergency responders.
Blended Learning Format
This course uses a blended learning model, combining interactive online training with an in-person skills session. The online portion covers essential knowledge and allows participants to learn at their own pace. The in-person class provides hands-on practice, skill demonstration, and scenario-based assessments to ensure real-world readiness.

After registering, your instructor will contact you via email to confirm your class details and provide a link to the American Red Cross Learning Center. Through this link, you’ll be enrolled in the online portion of the course, which must be completed prior to the in-person session. The instructor’s email will also include details about class time, location, and what to bring to the session.
